Early Rising Lark

A 3 day weekend should never go to waste, at least for me, it's like having a week off , to do so many things. I'm very happy I set out to make one particular project and so it got done! My Maxi Skirt! I started it off by Saturday night but had to stop as I love to sleep and I'm not much for staying up so late anymore. I did get up early to go out with Scott the next morning on our usual hikes. This time though, we hit 5 different spots, to which I did not get out of the car for about 3 of them. I was tired, it was HOT and my head was all about finishing up my skirt. I did however ,pick some lovely wild flowers and finally made use of this mirror I thrifted .The above is a full shot of this cute little wooden mirror with a place to hold a vase for flowers or whatever else you may choose to adorn it with. It was about $2 and Scott didn't like it none too much at first. After putting it up with my flowers he took a liking to it and decided it should stay at his place, as I was actually going to take it back to mine. We came home late and tired Sunday night but I managed to pretty much finish my skirt, all except for the zipper. Now if there is one thing I detest about sewing, it's the putting in of the zipper! I don't think I will ever really get the hang of it and it always comes out rather bad, but it does the job .Below are some of the other places we hiked up to, I had swam in this lake before when it was insanely cold but not on this day. Although it was hot and the water seemed to be the perfect place to cool off in, it was filled with heavy moss. It was pretty however.
We went to a park nearby and had a nice little picnic and as I was laying on the grass -I took this picture of the tree above us with my phone. Have you noticed I just love anything with a lens flare?
Monday morning I couldn't wait to get up and put that darn zipper in my new skirt. We decided to take pictures out by this little Mexican market we always shop at for fruits and veggies and Scott's favorite :Pirujos(Basically french roll) We both love the folk type art always painted on the sides of these markets and thought it would be appropriate for a photo shoot.

I have rolls of this amazing natural trim that I have not put to use yet so I went a bit nuts with it ! I put on the wider trim on my waist band and on the hem of my skirt.

I also used two smaller natural colored trims to create a border type pattern(Scott suggested that one, thanks scoopies!)

And of course, I made it extra long so that it could be a true Maxi .  I love this skirt, it's my new favorite piece of clothing I own but it certainly will not be the last. I am in the process now of editing a short little film I made with Scott's help of course, of different outfits I put together. It will take a while, I don't know much about computers or gadgets, so bare with me! Like I have mentioned before too, I am as well working on my short Illustrated story, so hopefully that will be posted up here soon too!

  4. Yeah! Rosalita! I think that's what I named her. As I was making it, I looked up at her and thought...hey we're going to have the same skirt! I was also about to make it red but thought , being the length it is, would stand out way too much. Thank you, now I might just make a dress next...waiting for your dress though : )
